Almost four months ago, I wrote a blog post about Ian Usher who was auctioning off his life. Usher's wife left him and he wanted to start his life anew, so he was selling his house, car, motorcycle, jet ski, spa, job, and "great friends" on eBay. He had hoped to sell his life for about $475,000 (I had mentioned $385K in my blog post).
Well, according to Reuters, Ian's life only sold for about $380,000. Apparently the bids reached as high as about $2.1 million, but it turned out that there was a glitch in eBay's system that allowed for unregistered bidders to put in bogus bids.
That's gotta be kinda sad right? For him to think that his life was "worth" so much and be all excited about how much money he'd have to start afresh, only to realize that cruel people were just messing with him and his life is only "worth" about a fifth of that. Well $380K isn't nothing to sneeze at and I wish him all the best in his new life.
BTW, Ian created his own website documenting the who/what/why/etc of his auction of his life. It's a pretty interesting read, but also a bit sad too.
Yup, that's the world we live in...
